The second example is really significantly front-focused, and is shot at f/2.8, so I don't think your focus and recompose technique is to blame (I'd expect a lot less change in focus using the slight focus and recompose you've used here).
Did you lock focus on the eyes and then recompose? Is it possible that you re-focused after you recomposed?
i had a similar problem with my nikon 50mm, inconsistent focus and hunting for focus, even after i locked it. Problem was, I thought i locked it, but i didn't check the settings on the camera iteself. I was set up for continuous focus instead of single focus, which accounted for the lens hunting and refocusing everytime i tried to compose a shot.
not sure if this helps, but once i did realize my error of not resetting the camera for what i was trying to do, the problem was gone.
Both of these sound like a good analysis of what may ahve caused your issues. I have a nifty 50 which I got recently but have only had it out once so far and did not notice any issues. But I was not doing potrait like fotos either. good luck.

That was my reason for being vague about any specific brand, all multifuntion units leave a lot to be desired in the quality department.
There ain't no free lunch. The only reason that all the manufacturers can offer such seemingly good value for money, is because they cut corners where you can't see - at least not at first anyhow.

I did a test when I got the speakers.
I played a cd direct over the speakers with no EQ. I got distortion at the highest volumes.
Most of my ripped music is at 128kbps AAC and some at 160kbps, and the distortion is much the same at high vol.
But mostly what they are designed for is use around their 'medium' volume. I just wanted to see how loud they went and if they couldn't handle it. I am very happy all the same and usually I play stuff quietly when I'm working. I just wanted to give a fuller perpective to VINESWINGMAN, to insure the group a little in case he says "these speakers say 8W each on the box and in my opinion they can't handle this"

And I cant afford a free iPad? that doesnt even make sense! go back to school. I actually paid for my iPad and all the other things I own while I do a job aswell as go to university which is a 2 hour ride there and another 2 hours back.

I second Andy McKee and Raul Midon. I would look at somebody like Newton Faulkner. He's big in england and his live set is just him and acoustic rather than with some of the other instruments on the two albums. Maybe City & Colour for something a bit more emo.

Another reason Alt/Option may be "locked" is that you may have set up firmware password protection. http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1352 (It actually shows up as a lock).
If so, turn it off.

I just picked up a D-Link DI-524 802.11g router at Best Buy two days ago. Perhaps not the most feature-rich router out there, but there were 40 dollars in rebates, bringing the price to $20. At that price I figured I could make a foray into wireless networking in my house. So far it seems to be working well. It was very simple to set up, and it seems to provide reasonably good coverage. No problems yet!

Based on my experience, the weakest spot in mini performance is the 5200 RPM drive. I'd suggest swapping out the hard drive as the best thing one can do and certainly more cost effective than a new mini with the same slow drive!

This is one of the best run and gun camera stabilizers that doesn't require you to balance and take a lot of time to learn how to use it... I even use it from time to time with my hvx 2000. hahah i just might do the overnight thing! thats taking a big risk of going that late to an apple store, might be at the back of the line LOL!!! most apple stores online are updating to reflect an 8am open on friday, so waiting for Canada's store to say that too :-) Maybe even a reserve as well...
I am 99.9% sure if you show up at an Apple Store at 6am you'll walk out with an iPhone 4 - even if they open at 8am.
Those that showed up at 7am to the Apple Stores during the iPad launch were able to get iPad's.
6am is a safe bet.
