iMac and iPod updates sound pretty reasonable, personally I think we will have to see something released next week. I also think we wil see the end of Solo processors in the Mac Mini line by October at the latest.
Just got my tax return and a new iPod and iMac would be nice

and waste data? i dont know...how useful is this...really?
You'd be able to update over Wifi too, of course.
others may find it useful, but why would one need to update on the go?
If you are away from your Mac that you sync with for an extended period of time.
I can't wait for this. Call me lazy, but I'm two small updates behind because I can't be bothered to sync my iPhone for fixes that don't affect me.
I'm hoping for wireless syncing with iTunes as well. The less I have to connect via a cable, the better.
what, you must never be at home and you must never sleep? you are an amazing human, humanoid???...jk...really people, for such a complex, albeit small package, a wired backup and update is just apple's way of ensuring quality. that being said, hurry up and bring on wireless syncing-what's the hold up!

Indeed you are correct. That is a Guinea and his name is Chowdah.:D

I wonder what Rand thinks about the sale of US military goods to foreign countries? Surely the sale of such, especially to militant countries like Iraq, Libya, Israel, etc, violates his sacrosanct policy of non-intervention.
But to not be allowed to sell weapons would violate his free market capitalism solves all problems philosophy. Cruise missiles don't kill people, people kill people ;)

As for 'professionals' getting pissy:
I don't think any of them care too much about the new features as much as they care about the speed updates. That's the biggest benefit for them.
The 'quick' editing features are useful for some 'pro' edits, definitely useful for a pro-sumer.
My best friend is an editor in a production house in Hollywood and his concern was that they didn't talk about tape workflow, video in/out cards, 3rd party support or XML-based export - among other things.
Just the concern is that they re-built the app and added a lot of GUI and 'smart' features but they didn't say anything about the dirty nuts & bolts.
So - it's an area of concern.
If Apple did what they did with iMove - re-built it from the ground up and removed features (most of which were re-added in the next version)
Well that would be a concern as the 'new' version wouldn't have support for their existing workflows.
(not workflows like "we like to do things this way" more workflows like "because of how this was shot or because we need to export to this specific tape deck" workflows that you can't really mess with)
It's mundane stuff to 'fans' and 'prosumers' but critical for higher end production houses.
A lot of people (me included) were pretty annoyed when Quicktime X came out with fewer features than QT7 . . .
As for the other reason editors might be grumpy:
Some of their 'work' will be partially replaced by smart features.
So they might worry that their exec sees this and gets rid of their assistant because "the software can do it!" which isn't necessarily the case.
Professionals get grumpy when all of a sudden software allows people to do things that used to be their 'trick' exclusively.
Old designers complain about Creative Suite, photographers complain about Photoshop/Lightroom/Aperture, music producers complain about Pro Tools and now editors will complain about Final Cut.

hope they aren't automatic then people will lose their jailbreaks! what he said. I'm currently not j/b, but I still would like the option...
best thing apple would do here is component-ize iOS better such that updates don't require 100s of megs of downloads. say you need just a safari update, safari shows up in your update list. etc etc...

I remember that phase. I had the whole aqua thing going on with a skin from themexp.
Yeah, well my phase is just between now and the MBP release. After that I'm gonna give my computer to my brother so that he can play GTA: SA without any lagging. Hehe :D Long live games, the only thing a PC does better than a mac

Safe predictions for the MB C2D:
2.16 GHz for the upper two models, 2.0 for the cheapest
~20MB larger hard drive
no difference in GPU
runs significantly cooler overall
Riskier bets:
1GB standard (but as two 512MB cards, unlike the MBP)
Price premium for black reduced to $100

It probably won't come before Christmas. Would cut into sales of the Beatles LOVE Songtrack. A Macworld accouncement would be about right!
I agree it might cut into sales of the physical CD, but I think overall sales of the album would skyrocket if it were on iTunes. Making it available on iTunes now would also stop some people from going to the "file sharing" sites to find it. On Amazon.com the CD is selling for $9.72. I have a feeling that on iTunes it would be at least $12.99... and people would pay it. Record company profits either way.

When it comes to writing emails or checking facebook, a smart phone or tablet will do that just as well as a PC.
Yes, and I think at this point most people who want a PC of some sort already have one. It may be an aging Compaq desktop from 2003 but it still runs, and it still does the emails and Facebook just fine, so they're not rushing out the door to buy a new one to replace it.

You killed your mother because your friends laughed at you   :p
B
NO, She died of natural causes BUT (TRUE STORY) on August 29th, 1966 a friend showed up at my house at 6PM with two tickets to see the Beatles at Candlestick Park in San Francisco. My mother said I could not go becuase I had a drum lesson at 7PM and unless it was cancelled a day in advance, we'd have to pay. So I missed what became the last official concert the Beatles ever played.
I no longer play the drums  AND my mother is dead. :(
see not everyone here is 23...

the key issue in my case was that my macbook couldn't go to sleep or be closed, everytime it woke up, it wouldn't last longer than 3 seconds and then shut down and all of the other known symptoms.
I ran the firmware upgrade and it works fine now, it's not hot or anything and the fans seem to be working at a normal pace.
Well, I am grateful for the fact that I don't have to turn in the mac for 5 days or more for servicing... I make a living out of this thingy...:DSome firmware engineer is going to get a very good performance review if this truly does fix the problem. There is nothing a company loves more then finding a way in software to fix a hardware problem and saving the company millions of dollars in repair costs.

Think of the Nexus One, the first Google branded phone. Less than a year old and can be considered ancient and outdated. Did it get any Android updates? I don't know, but it's highly unlikely that it will get Android 2.3 (if it even has 2.2)...
The Nexus One got 2.3. (I'm running it right now.) It was one of the first to get 2.2. Mind you, the 2.3 release came MONTHS after it was projected to and I have to admit my phone is now approximately as stable as Windows 98. I'm almost considering going back to 2.2 or trying a custom ROM because 2.3 in terms of stability is a crime against technology.

Is it just me, or does the new iTunes logo look horrible in the dock? It doesnt seem to match anything, and it just doesnt look as "clean" as the typical dock logos have been/should be. When i went to click iTunes for the first time and it changed from the nice/clean green logo to this blue cheesy looking 1995 icon, I was pretty surprised!
it doesn't look right to me. The icon seems HUGE, it seems like the used every single pixel available to them while other icons were allowed to breathe.
Check it..

"I can't think of any other company that could so totally redefine what a non-linear video editor is than Apple"
Aside from a few tidbits, FCX is (finally) catching up to many features that other NLEs have had for several years.
<insert fanboy excuses here>
Explain.
Those familiar with the other tools already know this. Here's a good summary:

It's only 20 more now than a same-spec white one. Cheaper than before I think.
I was just about to post this. The UK store appears down for me at the moment. This is based on the edu price (the UK edu store is up for me).
I'm teetering the edge of buying the black one. If that price was for a 1x1GB memory config I'd be a lot more tempted.
I think I can wait until the MBP 13.3 that will be announced in January (alongside the touchscreen ipod). :D

You can save a little money by buying the box set on CD from Amazon, but then your music is in that old-fashioned "hard-copy" format so you have to rip the music to iTunes! :)
Amazon also sells the mono collection, which I've been contemplating but haven't yet purchased.
Got it.Love it.And the stereo box,and the memory stick with the complete stereo box in MP3(or is it AAC..or both?)AND FLAC-the highest quality ever released.

The new iPod is just a size bump of the 5G, the new features are just software updates.
So the 60% brighter display is just a software update?
