So i went to best buy and they didnt get any iPads in. Only reservations for $100. What the eff was the point of the whole promotion crap and big ad in the newspapers. What a disappointment (nothing new)? Anyways i went over to toys r us at around 12, and bought their first iPad of the day, funny thing is, is that they opened at 9 am. How the hell does best buy get no iPads and our toys r us down the street gets 5?

This tweet (http://twitter.com/counternotions/status/5639310946) might explain it.
Walled garden is what makes it work. I don't want everyone in the world to see me on there. I don't want my information on facebook outside of facebook.
It's better because of the walled garden. Sure it might be better functionality-wise if it was open. But my identity is sort of important to me and if that was compromised that doesn't benefit me at all.
So, sure. Irony. But there's a good reason for the walled garden.

The iPhone 4's 5 mp camera has superior quality against its competitors 8mp. The reason being is that the quality of the lens that is in the iPhone is higher than the opposing. I hope to see crystal clear hdr photos and 1080p 30fps video. 1080p on the next iPad would rock!

If Apple manufactured their products in the US, the iPhone would probably cost $999 with a 2-year contract and the iPad would probably cost $1599 for the 16GB model.
When you have to pay someone $12 an hour to work an assembly line and pay for benefits and payroll taxes, that raises costs a lot to a country where you can pay 75 cents per hour and benefits like health insurance cost $5 a month rather than $500.
A 25-page document isn't necessary and the law would be dumb. All that it takes is for someone to take a basic economics course.
Americans who complain about jobs leaving overseas need to realize that when they go shopping they need to put their money where their mouth is. Everyone pays lip service to "made in the usa" but when they look at the price tags in the store they buy made in china!
The thing to watch here is if the quality improves when production is done in Brazil. If the production quality is the same or better, that's good news for consumers.
Recently I have purchased two truck toys for my kid, one was a made in China Tonka truck $50, the other was a Bruder truck $50 made in Germany, about same size trucks, same functionality, and the Bruder was made out of nice soft plastics where Tonka was made from hard cheap plastics, plus if you would even look at both of the toys you would see just how much better and how much more detail the Bruder had over Tonka. Anyway, one would think that a childs toys is a low skill labor job and that it wouldn't make any sense building it in a highly developed nation yet somehow its doable in Germany. I see more made in EU toys in European Union countries than I see made in USA toys in USA (which is almost zero). This is just an example to show that simply US companies are more greedy and they just want more bottom line profit, nothing else. They don't care about local communities, their towns, basically their own consumer base, because the people who make it are also the people who buy it. But this kind of mentality is good for short term investment, what happens if your entire middle class disappears (its been happening for the past 25 years)? Who will buy the overpriced Nike or Apple products? I could see an advantage of cheaper labor in labor intensive niche products but those products are expensive to begin with, so if a person would be able to afford a $2000 Coach made in China bag, then they could easily afford a $2250 made in USA bag. Again, labor cost difference in mass production items is minimal.
Another issue is outsourcing of ALL the jobs, these days you have doctors from Russia reading the CT scans or X Rays for American practices and does a US patient see a decrease in medical costs??? NOPE You have paralegals outsourced all over the world, programmers/IT, lawyers, pretty much any industry can be outsourced these days except for services. And again, the savings in labor are not passed towards the consumer, its more about increasing profits for select few.
Do you really think that iPhone would cost $999 if it were made in USA? It would be maybe $50-75 more expensive than it is now and all the money would stay within the country making the country stronger and local economies strong and stable. And last but not least, US government allows all of this, its funny how for over 50 years they were battling USSR and communism yet since the 1970s they helped one of the most oppressive communist countries which is China become a world power. On one hand USA is trying to teach "democracy" in the Middle East and yet they do business with one of the largest oppressive countries in the world. Anyway, I'll end my rant, its not like the world will change tomorrow.

Well that makes sense, as it costs lots of money for developers to attend... why should they show it for free live :) Thanks.
The devs are paying to go to all the booths and tutorials where they can learn about the new features and how to impliment them into their software. The Keynote is really just a bit of fun for them.

So can someone explain to me why they have to get Verizon's permission to offer system upgrades over the air, when you can already go in the app store and download Angry Birds over the air? Seriously, this would be a security boon to be able to push updates without tethering them to a computer. Many people don't sync their iPhones for weeks at a time, but they are on them daily. If you can push out security updates sooner, then it is a good thing for everyone involved. And I would wager there's waaaaay more bandwidth being sucked up by iTunes and the App Store than system updates would require.

My new iPad was at the local FedEx distribution center, 2 miles from my house, only to be returned to Apple at Apples request. I provided them with my UPS Store PMB (Private Mail Box) number because I was out of town when it arrived. Someone had to sign. I couldn't leave it on my porch. I don't know my neighbors well enough. The folks at the UPS store could sign, right? Wrong. Because UPS has the ability to ship overseas, Apple refused to deliver.
I travel for my job. My wife does, as well. Apple's Shipping Restrictions web page states they will not ship to PO Boxes and APO's. No mention of PMB's.
So 21 days after announcement, my iPad was 2 miles from my hands. It's gone.
Apple said Sorry, you'll have to reorder. It's only another 5 weeks before I can get one. They would not expedite a new order. They would not hold the iPad at the FedEx distribution center. Too bad for me. I'm fuming. I'm pissed.
I reordered from AT&T. Wait time 25 business days. I won't give Apple all the profit they would have enjoyed. I know. Big deal. I'm not a profiteer. Not trying to subvert their ordering system. Too bad. I'm screwed.
I understand why they refused to deliver. But, no phone call, no alternative delivery option, no expedited order, no option.
Bad customer service. I've spent $6,000 with them over the last three years. So what? Who cares.

It's a shame that these $50.00 chinese 1GB and $70.00 2GB MP4 players with the Samsung chip have MP3 playback - Video - FM Radio - eBook Reader - Photo Viewer - Voice & FM Recorder, yet the Nano at three times the price does not!
The Nano with these features, plus iTMS, will withstand anything coming from Sandisk, MS, Creative, or the cheap Chinese imports.Yes, because at the moment the competition is killing the iPods... oh, wait...
Seriously: Why should you cram all that s*** into the iPods. Leave them be, and sell all those other things as optional accessories... I don't want a radio, video and voice recorder, so why should I have to pay for all that...?

I'm sorry skunk, but I'm not quite sure how to explain it any better than I already have. As I stated above, free will is an essential aspect of what the Bible reveals about our relationship with God. I don't follow where you think I've indicated that there is no room for the allowance of independent action. You said: "Man's capacity for altruism, self sacrifice, and compassion are seen as proof of his independence from God. "See what we can accomplish on our own... we don't need God." In this manner all of man's action is an act of self glorification and self reliance." The clear implication of this is that we need to act under licence from your chief god in order not to be "self-glorifying", which is patent nonsense. This differentiation between human altruism and divinely-sanctioned altruism is nothing but artifice: what is the real difference?

The exploit is apparently in the device driver, and so its more of an issue with Atheros than with Apple.
The drivers are part of the OS.
Apple did not write all of the OS much of it comes from BSD UNIX and some more of it comes from CMU's Mach. Many (most?) of the hundreds of applications that ship with Mac OSX are Open Source that Apple did not write.
We shouldn't care much about if Apple employees wrote the code or if they hired the job out of it the downloaded an Open Source application off the Internet. If the software has a problem it needs to be fixed.

Heh, my roommate tells me he's got a family friend where the husband and wife have figured out a good compromise (only works if both sides are actually decent with money ;) ).
If either buys an expensive purchase, the other side gets to also buy something of equivalent value. Apparently it keeps them in check about overspending cause they realize it will cost their household twice the amount of money and it stays fair cause both sides get to enjoy a purchase of their own.
Anyways, to the people making jokes about the wife being over controlling, projecting much? Other than the wife saying no, we have no idea why she said no. It could be they are on a tight budget (and the husband tends to be a little too impulsive with his spending). Or that they discussed it and realized they could use the money better elsewhere.
And just cause she said no doesn't mean he hasn't told her no on some of her purchases either... One of her arguements could be, "I wasn't able to get this cause we're trying to save for this and yet you got that?".
You don't know the whole story and it amazes me how people immediately assume the wife is just some controlling witch and that the guy is just some poor schmuck at the whim of his wife. Maybe his wife is having to put up with having a tight budget and a husband who doesn't know how to conserve money when needed. Maybe they even both discussed it and both came to the conclusion that he didn't need it and just for humor value he joked to the clerk when returning it, "Wife said no." (Maybe he was just embarrassed to be returning it so joked that to not look so bad himself, it was her fault obviously. Maybe she was there and didn't even mind him blaming her jokingly).

I agree with you 100%, well said.
I get it- as a wife, I was the one buying the iPads, with money I make in my consulting business. However, my husband would have not been pleased if it was blowing all of our discretional income without discussing it first...
In this case, since he gets my iPad 1, he is happy, and he's thrilled that I've made enough $ through my p/t job to afford to do this.
Marriage is all about mutual responsibility. And while he "asks" me before buying stuff for his wood workshop, I don't ever think I would say "no"- depending on the expense it might only be "not now". Our unspoken rule is if it's a non-essential over about $200, the other spouse should be advised and gets a courtesy ask. Keeps us both happy.

Apple has never changed this policy and they never will.
I would have liked to see the promised updates for Facebook. It seems Apple may have fallen down on the job (no pun intended).

More megapixels can mean equal or better quality at a larger resolution or worse quality at a larger resolution. It all depends on how they cram in the extra pixels. If they cram them into the same size sensor as a 5MP, then it would result in lower quality, but larger pictures. If they increase the sensor size, which would require a longer focal length, then you would have equal or better quality at a larger resolution. The problem with increasing the focal point is the iPhone's thin design. They would have to move sensor further away from the lens in order for it to focus properly. I believe Apple did go with a larger sensor in the iPhone 4.
Which they worked on for nearly two years. And in the iPhone 5, will be even larger sensors, that have been worked on, for the last year and half.

I had my 3rd gen iPod for years until it got stolen but it gave me over 3 years of love before all these 'posh' colour ones came out.
It was and still is the best mp3 player and they joy it brought me! If the iPod classic does go it'll be a sad day but that's evolution for you, the new ones are just as exciting!
That blog just goes to show that Job's was right and still is, with every new Apple product negative responses galore appear and yet we all end up buying one in the end!

Yep. Hear it all the time. "Protect my family", "Keep my family safe". In other words, kill the other party so that your offspring may live. The attitude needs to change. Yugo's for everyone.

But don't they manage patches with Mac OS X all the time... ? And Mac OS X has much more of the OS exposed and accessible to the user (more to be tinkered with).
There is a common issue where the OSX patches don't work right, and people's answer is always to go get the Combo Upgrade and use that instead. Many people just start at the Combo these days. I'm always willing to cope with a larger download if it makes things easier later. Even when I was on 1.5Mbps connection, I'd just let the download run while I sleep.
Personally, I'm fine with plugging my phone into my dock. (which is also a USB hub, for those worried about # of ports) It's almost as easy as setting it on a table, so I don't really care about wifi updates. I'd rather charge while downloading large files instead of burning battery.
It's fine for those that can't be bothered with a wired setup, or have only a laptop, I guess.

Except I would have to pay for the parts and the R&D...
Well, you are already paying for color-screen, video-playback, photo-playback etc. etc. etc.. They seem to be adding features constantly, yet the price does not go up (more or less).
If you wanted a barebones iPod, you would always have the Shuffle
